The Mechanical Engineering is based on high technology and know-how, while respecting environmental values. As a mechanical engineering student, you will be at the cutting edge of developing more environmentally friendly technical solutions. You will learn about the green transition. You will also be equipped to develop your skills to build a sustainable economy and growth of the future in an ecological, fossil-free, and resource-efficient way.
The studies combine strong mathematical and scientific skills with a practical approach and learning by doing. At the beginning of your studies, you will focus on building strong scientific and technical skills. In the third year, you choose your orientation, after which you delve deeper into the specialized knowledge of your chosen profession.
Why choose Mechanical Engineering?
Obviously because Mechanical Engineering is the best choice.
What will you study?
The studies combine strong mathematical and scientific skills with a practical approach and learning by doing. At the beginning of your studies, you will focus on building strong scientific and technical skills. In the third year, you choose your orientation, after which you delve deeper into the specialized knowledge of your chosen profession.
Studies consist of
• Common studies in Technology 60 ECTS
• Common Metropolia UAS studies 10 ECTS
• Professional studies 60 ECTS
• Specialization studies (Machine Design / Aircraft Engineering) 45 ECTS
• Project studies 10 ECTS
• Elective studies 10 ECTS
• Work Placement 30 ECTS
• Thesis 15 ECTS
The students can apply for a short or long- term exchange in partner universities. The work placement period which is included in the degree can be completed in part or in total abroad.
Major options
We offer two (2) majors:
• Machine Design
• Aircraft Engineering
Please note
• Students need to enroll to major option selection.
• Major option selection will be held once a year, in spring term.
• Major studies start once a year, in August.
• Starting studies in major option require that student has followed the curriculum as planned and has completed 120 credits, i.e.
two years of studies.
• Student does not automatically get a study place in his/her preference major.
• We have limited study places in each major option.
• The major option will be offered if a sufficient number of students will choose the major option.
• If the number of students applying for a major exceeds the number of study places, the selection criteria will be based on study
success and other criteria defined by the degree program.
Major option will give you an in-depth insight into the subject areas that are relevant and up to date in each major option. You can also extend your knowledge in any other major options by taking it as a minor option in your engineering studies. Major options and course offerings in Major Options are subject to change.
Machine design
The Machine Design option trains engineers who can take customer needs into account and design innovative, user-friendly, easy-to-manufacture and environmentally friendly products, and lead product development projects. The studies focus on product development, materials and manufacturing engineering, engineering mechanics, computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation.
The training provides a solid foundation in various aspects of engineering business, such as design, computer-aided simulation, and sales.
Machine design engineering involves solving design problems, which requires creativity, initiative, and cooperation, as well as an in-depth knowledge of specific aspects of mechanical engineering.
Aircraft Engineering
Studies in Aircraft Engineering include: aeronautical engineering, aeromechanics, structural solutions, avionics and aircraft engines and systems and drones. Aircraft engineering is taught in cooperation with other educational organisations.
